Activities planned for World Usability Day in Charlotte on November 8

Who: Anyone and everyone in Charlotte, NC.
What: Usability awareness including games and fun activities.

When: Thursday, November 8th, 2007.

Everyone in the Charlotte, North Carolina area can attend the festivities from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m, at the Main Branch of the Charlotte public library. You are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate in one or all of the following activities:

1. Alarm Clock Race: A race where participants compete to adjust and set a variety of alarm clocks in limited time.

2. Toy Sort: A variety of toys are sorted by participants into a limited number of categories to introduce the concept of Card Sorting and incorporating user language / organization within websites.

3. Participatory Design: Participants can try their hand at creating example homepages for a library website.

4. Usability Videos: A selection of videos that demonstrate usability problems, psychological effects, and bad customer experiences.

5. What is Usability: Handouts and general information about usability methods, techniques, and concepts.

6. UNC Charlotte and Winthrop University:
Information on Human Computer Interaction and Information Design educational programs.

7. Healthcare Usability: This exhibit will identify usability issues, challenges, and unique design approaches within healthcare industry.

The goal of World Usability Day is to raise awareness in the general public about the importance of usability in product and services design. Please let your friends and colleagues know about this event and plan to attend on Thursday, November 8th!
